Boredom Busters for June & July

I'm reading this short book about Boredom busters to give us some fresh ideas to play with.

Celebrate everything. Kids are the best at celebrating and everything is so spectacular to them. Here are a few great ideas to celebrate during the month of June and July that might not already be on your calendar.

June is known for fresh fruits and vegetables. It's when all the local Farmer's Markets open and you can have your pick.

Idea #1. Make Strawberry Freezer Jam. You will surely enjoy this all summer long and you can freeze up to one year (I hardly keep anything over 6-9 months though- YUK!). I will post the recipe.

Idea #2 Celebrate everything. Here is a list of dates that your children will enjoy celebrating.

June 8th, Ice Cream First Sold in the U.S. (1786)
Make some Homemade ice cream. I'll post Tin Can Ice Cream shortly.

June 12 First Baseball Game Played in the U.S. (1839)
Take he family outside for a friendly game of ball. Serve hot dogs for lunch.

July 5, Phineas T. Barnum's Birthday (1810)
P.T. Barnum may be the most well known for his circus, but did you know he also owned a clock factory, built several natural history museums, and build the town of Bridgeport, Connecticut? Help your children create their own museum using their stuffed animals, toys and other knickknacks. Let them be your tour guide.

July 7- Chocolate Day; Chocolate Introduced in Europe (1550)
In other words, eat chocolate. Chocolate muffins or pancakes for breakfast and so forth.

July 9, Doughnut Cutter Invested (1872)
Take a trip to your favorite bakery or doughnut shop. Doughnuts are typically less than $1 and at Walmart are between .50-.60.

July 11-, Arthur E.B. White's Birthday (189_
Begin reading E.B. White's wonderful classic book, Charlotte's Web. Take the kids to a county fair to see the animals. Many states have their fairs or rodeos during the summer months.

July 13, International Puzzle Day
Make your own puzzles with your kids. For each puzzle, you will need 1 piece of cardboard, markers or crayons and scissors. Let the child draw and color a picture on the cardboard. Cut the finished artwork into puzzle pieces. Mix up the pieces and see how long it takes to put together.

July 19, Ice Cream Day
Another day devoted to ice cream, hooray! Set up an ice cream sundae bar for dessert. Your kids (and husbands) will love it.

July 28, Author Beatrix Potter's Birthday (1866)
If you haven't already done so, today is the perfect day to introduce your little ones to Beatrix Potter's delightful classic, Peter Rabbit. Enjoy some carrot salad while you do.

If you are intersted in this cute little book, it is called Little Books for Busy Moms, Boredom Busters.
