I just knew Hailey had an ear ache after sleepless nights and from all the drainage she had going on. Little did I know what else they would find!
I opted not to visit the ER and drive around at 2:30 in the morning early yesterday morning. The rain, her music and the motion put her right to sleep. While she stayed asleep, she tossed, turned and coughed all night. Needless to say that I didn't sleep much and if it was 2 hours, that was more than I thought. I was shocked as to how many people where on the roads that late. Not sure if they were other parents (dads usually do the driving around in the middle of the night), drunks or just people with odd times. I did see a lot of police cars in our area so that made me feel better.
We got up around 8 and she was still coughing so I set up an appointment with Tulsa PEdi Urgent Care. I assumed we could get right in as we were there when they opened. WRONG! We couldn't get an appointment until 6:30 and they were calling at 6 asking where we were. The Doctors were wonderful and I highly recommend this place. They do everything in house. Hailey had an xray, flu test, ears cleaned and throat checked. Her lungs have a lot of fluid (hence the early stages of pneumonia) and she has her first ear infection. Luckily, her flu test came back negative!! That was great news for us.
She was really sick in Texarkana on 8/20 and the doctor thinks she had pneumonia and it was just over looked. Most people I ran into while in Texarkana had the crud (cough, congestion, runny nose, etc) so I totally understand why it was just played off as what everyone else has. The donatussin did help then. It wasn't however helping now. So they believe that it started to heal leaving fluid behind in her lungs and something kicked it back up. Maybe that is why we've had bouts of congested coughs for the last month? I assumed it was allergies causing all of that. It could have been the weather change, the cold front, her runny nose, anything. Whatever it may be, I'm glad they did an xray. If we went 2-3 more days, she would have ended up in the hospital on iv's and steroids. YUK! No one wants that for babies!
She is doing much better today. She is clingy and wants to me in my lap but isn't crying non-stop. She played a little this morning after breakfast, had lunch and then we went on a walk between rain clouds. She crashed and is still in her bed sleeping soundly. Hopefully the rest and the anitbiotics are helping her system. It's her first time on antibiotics! ugh!
I'll keep you all updated on her progress. We will reevaluate tomorrow and then again in 10 days (from yesterday). Hopefully everything will be clear!!
