Magical Christmas

What a magical Christmas we had here in Texas! The Dallas- Fort Worth area had its first white Christmas in 80 years. Friends and family loved having all the white snow on the ground for the gathering of the children. While the snow wasn’t a lot compared to our white Christmas while living in Colorado, it was a good amount for Texas. Roads were slick and wrecks were happening. I’m not sure if the trucks didn’t treat the roads or if there was more ice than actual snow. Friends of mine were pulling people out of the ditch along I 35 W north of Fort Worth on Christmas Eve and we saw a few wrecks driving into Dallas on Christmas morning.
We start the Holiday with Christmas at mom’s house on Christmas Eve late afternoon and evening. We had delicious chicken spaghetti (we love not having turkey!), green beans, garlic bread, fudge, Christmas cookies and Chocolate delight. It was a nice time visiting and celebrating the holiday. Hailey was sleepy (no nap) so she and I headed to dads for bed while the others met up with dad and went to Lindy’s house. Each year, she has family out on Christmas Eve. I always enjoy it (haven’t been in years L as we are always in Irving) but Hailey was entirely too cranky. It wouldn’t have been fair for anyone. Christmas morning came early and it was COLD. Hailey and I hit the road, picked up Grandma Christine in Sulphur Springs by 9:30 and were in Irving by lunch. Chris closed on Christmas Eve so he met us there. We spent the day with family visiting, laughing and enjoying the company. The tree is always so full when we arrive. Lunch/Dinner was lots of goodies from turkey to pork loin, green bean casserole, broccoli & rice casserole, mashed potatoes, rolls, lots of appetizers followed by cheese cake, wine and a delicious Christmas Cake from the Bakerman. We all received lots of great things and gave great things. I’ve been using my video camera so once I remember how to post it, I will. While we were in Irving, Christmas was being held at my dad’s house. They said that had a wonderful day and had pork loin, cranberry rice, turkey, broccoli & rice, chicken enchiladas, Italian cream cake, green bean casserole…. can’t remember what else they said. When we arrived, most of it was gone so it must have been good. I’ve been finishing off the cake the past few nights.
I managed to catch a virus early Sunday morning and Hailey had a small portion of it on Monday. We’re both better and REALLY sorry we missed Christmas in Sulphur Springs. Hailey and I always look forward to a visit with family there and Hailey LOVES playing with her cousins there. We’ll make a trip there soon but Laura is coming to see us tomorrow. We’re excited!!!!
Today was house cleaning day and cooking day. We had the house scrubbed by early afternoon, showered and went to play with Collins. I worked on Hailey’s thank you cards for Christmas while there. They are too cute! Later, we went to Albertsons for groceries and cooked a large batch of chili and spaghetti sauce. It was yummy and there is plenty to freeze for another meal soon. I just froze the spaghetti sauce for later in the week or next week. The house smells wonderful on this cold winter night. I hear DFW is having snow again but so far it is just sleet for us. Or at least it was around 6 tonight when I put Hailey down. Poor thing was super cranky today, a short nap and her eyetooth is causing issues. I’m praying for her to sleep at least until 6 in the morning but we shall see. I’ll download some pictures after this episode of True Blood since there aren’t commercials.
